My Domme Gig Was a Side Hustle to a Side Hustle
What to expect to read about when subscribing to this newsletter.
I recently changed the name of this newsletter from “Confessions of a Dominatrix” to “My Dominatrix Side Hustle.” Why? I want to clarify to subscribers that I will not be addressing you as a Lifestyle Dominant.
I will be sharing my perspective as a writer who used a job as a Dominatrix as a way to fund other creative projects. In short, my Domme practice was always a side hustle.
Being upfront about this doesn’t just serve as a disclaimer for readers who might be expecting to find FemDom porn here, or tips on how to have a female-led relationship. Instead, by revealing that my work as a Dominatrix was always a side gig, I want to share the purpose of this newsletter.
I hope to document what happened when an “ordinary” woman explored sadomasochism both as a business and a sexual proclivity. How did this change me? What did I learn?
But I wasn’t just a tourist in the BDSM scene either. I logged in hundreds of hours of real-time experience, domming submissives in different dungeons around the world.
And yet, domming was always just a means to an end, a way to fund other creative endeavors and businesses.
So, why write my memoirs if I was ultimately just a part-time “service top”? Do I even have permission to write about being a Dominatrix?
Yes, because I still offer a unique perspective.
My story is not unusual. Many other women have opted to do this type of work as a side gig—as a way to put themselves through school, fund other businesses, or afford themselves the time to focus on other creative projects.
I’m not sharing this information in an attempt to justify having done sex work either. I’m just telling it like it is.
Funnily enough, my work as a professional Dominatrix didn’t just start as a side hustle but as a side hustle to a side hustle. At 24 years old, I was moonlighting as an aspiring documentary filmmaker while working a day job as a writer and proofreader for a major publishing company. But my day job didn’t earn me enough to finance the documentary’s production costs. And so I began to do Domme work on the side to pay for this other, well, side project.
And still, today I consider myself a BDSM expert. In the past year, I’ve been interviewed in the mainstream media several times about BDSM:
How to Use Stainless Steel Sex Toys in Mashable.
Wait, Are Kinks Hereditary? in Cosmo.
A Guide to Tickling Feet in Giddy.
You can also listen to me be interviewed about the connections between BDSM and Tantra here.
In short, I’ve put in the work. I know what I’m talking about. But I feel I also need to be honest about having always approached my work as a Domme as a side hustle.
If you’re interested in reading the story of how a once shy and repressed woman used her pro-Domme side gig to explore her identity and sexuality, then I think you’ll like this newsletter.
I look forward to sharing more about my past experiences with my Dominatrix side hustle very soon.
Fancy meeting you here!!
